#9 Our First Ever Community Day

Last Saturday (November 15th), we hosted something we had been dreaming about for a long time: our very first Asian-only Community Day.
A full afternoon and evening designed to connect, create, eat, laugh and recharge together in a space where everyone could simply be.

And honestly? It was even better than we imagined.

Connecting Through Calligraphy

We kicked off with our Connecting Through Calligraphy workshop: a beautiful blend of creativity, reflection and speed-meeting. Participants explored favourite words, lyrics, meaningful expressions and then shared the stories behind them with someone new. Very quickly, the room filled with soft brushes, flowing ink, and unexpected conversations. It set the tone for the rest of the day: open, curious and full of warmth.

Dumpling Workshop: the Best Kind of Chaos

Our dumpling session was the perfect mix of skills, stories, and delicious smells.

Some folded like pros. Some… tried their best. But regardless of technique, everyone created something (and ate something) together.
We even saved part of the batch for the potluck that followed.

Community Potluck

From home-cooked comfort food to classic snacks to secret-family-recipes, our potluck table was stacked. People shared dishes tied to their heritage, their families, their memories and within minutes, the room felt like a big cousin reunion. It was community in its purest form.

Karaoke to Close the Night

And of course, we had to end with karaoke. Whether people sang their hearts out or simply cheered from their seats, the energy was wholesome, funny, and chaotic in all the right ways. Everyone was smiling, exchanging socials, and asking, “When’s the next one?”

We hear you. And yes, we’ll absolutely be doing this again.

A Huge Thank You

Special thanks to Muntpunt for letting us use their facilities.
And everyone who joined, helped, cooked, carried, folded, sang, cleaned and showed up with openness: thank you.
You made our first Community Day meaningful and memorable. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

Our next event is already around the corner. On 12 December 2025, in collaboration with Curieus and as part of Festival van de Gelijkheid, we’re hosting a panel on white fragility: an honest, necessary conversation about race, discomfort, accountability, and change.
