#14 Roots & Weaves: Philippine heritage reimagined
There are moments when fashion transcends aesthetics and becomes something deeper: a story told through fabric, stitching, and the hands that created it. On June 6th, we had the privilege of witnessing one such moment as the Philippine Art and Culture Exchange (PACE) hosted the public debut of designer Maxime Edward's latest collection.
A Personal Diary Woven in Textile
This wasn't just a fashion show. It was a personal journey made visible.
Maxime Edward, a Brussels-based contemporary designer with over a decade of experience and several international awards, embarked on a transformative trip to the Philippines one year ago (his first visit to the country where he was born, after having been adopted abroad). During that journey, he connected with textile makers from across the archipelago, witnessing traditional knowledge and tools in action.
With support from PACE, he purchased textiles directly from artisans and began reinterpreting them through his modern lens. The result? A collection that serves as a personal diary of travel, culture, roots and identity. Bold. Colourful. Structural. A story of (be)longing in two different places.

An Evening to Remember
The event followed the collection's narrative arc, opening up a vital conversation about the role of traditional textiles in the present and future fashion industry. Between cocktails, food, music and a captivating catwalk, guests were immersed in an atmosphere that balanced celebration with reflection.

Building Community Through Culture
Events like these remind us why Asian Persuasion exists. We believe in creating spaces where diverse voices can share their stories, where stereotypes dissolve through genuine connection, and where cultural heritage isn't preserved in amber but actively reimagined for new generations.
