#4: Panel Recap: Asian Voices in Art & Culture

Last month, we gathered for a powerful evening of truth-telling, connection and creative exchange during our panel talk Asian Voices in Art & Culture.

It’s no secret: the Belgian arts scene still doesn't fully reflect the rich, diverse reality of our society. For artists with (Southeast) Asian roots, visibility remains a challenge. Whether through limited opportunities, stereotyping, or a lack of representation in mainstream institutions, many face systemic barriers that often go unspoken.

That’s exactly why this panel was needed. Together with our partner Kif Kif and an incredible group of panelists, we opened up space to talk about what it really means to create from (and beyond) our identities. It was also the first time moderating for our co-founder Christopher.

We dove into how a (Southeast) Asian background shapes artistic expression in a society where Western norms are often the standard. We talked resistance, resilience and representation. We unpacked how art can both carry and challenge the weight of expectations.

These conversations are not just about visibility. They’re about changing the cultural narrative. They’re about artists being able to show up fully, not just as tokenized voices, but as the multidimensional creators they are.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up!
